(P1): Son of a Serendipitous Glitch

Artist Statement:

For this project, I wanted to experiment with how AI perceives human emotion and connection. I figured this would be a perfect concept because AI cannot accurately depict what we humans feel when we connect, whether romantically or platonically. Thus, adding glitches to the AI-generated images represents the imperfect notions it has about a concept that AI itself is not able to feel.

The first few labs were a bit daunting, as was this project as a whole because there was little structure or guidelines. You are altering images in a way that is not meant to happen, hence the chaos and randomness of each image. This made it frustrating to figure out how to break each image in unconventional ways, but I managed to work around it. I also found it limiting to generate the images as most times when I would type a prompt, it was against the guidelines of the image generator platform, even though my prompts weren't vulgar.

It was fun to play around with the glitches and embrace randomness, which isn't something I usually do when it comes to creating. I'm not entirely sure if my concept is expressed clearly in the final products, but I suppose that adds to my concept as it is hard to accurately represent emotional feelings using a computer. Overall, I do like the way each final product came out, and I believe my theme and style are cohesive. I would like to experiment more with glitching images and videos in the future because, although complicated, the end goal is worth it.
