Artist Statement:

In this project, I explored the intersection of digital art and interactive media by creating TikTok filters using Blender and Effect House. Initially, I had a variety of ideas for complex filters, but as I worked with Blender, I quickly realized the importance of simplifying my 3D objects. By focusing on cleaner, more organized designs, I was able to create filters that were both visually effective and functionally smooth. This shift in approach allowed me to refine my artistic vision while also improving the usability of my filters.

Effect House was a surprisingly intuitive tool, offering an extensive library of tutorials that made the technical aspects of filter creation more accessible. I appreciated how streamlined the process became once I had a solid understanding of its features. However, working in Blender was a different experience—while it opened up a vast range of creative possibilities, it was also a painstaking process. From unexpected technical issues to the steep learning curve, I encountered numerous challenges along the way. Despite these frustrations, I found immense value in pushing through and learning from each obstacle.

This project has sparked a deeper interest in Blender’s potential, and I hope to continue refining my skills in 3D modeling and interactive media. The ability to create immersive digital experiences through filters is something I want to explore further, especially as platforms like TikTok continue to evolve. This project was both a learning experience and a creative experiment, and I look forward to seeing where it takes me next. Overall, I am happy with how my filters turned out, but I would like to take more time to perfect them if I were to do this again in the future.
