(P1): Zine Brainstorm

For this first project, I want to experiment with the idea of time and how it affects the world around us. There are so many different ways I can approach this idea and I want to challenge myself to make the meaning intricate and purposeful. Because the layout of the zine is like a book, one of my ideas is to tell the story of a person throughout their life and how their connections, interests, and environment change and adapt until their time on Earth is eventually up. Another idea I have is to create a collection of how time affects certain things such as a tree in a forest, aging on skin, the development of a city from hills and grass, human connection, clothing styles, etc. I think it could be a fun and unique way to represent the concept of time. To further the idea of this idea, I want to include a clock somewhere on each page that cycles through each time of day to represent how the concept of time is a constant loop that continues forever through the same numbers, but the world around us changes, grows, dies, and evolves. On one page where the time is say at 1 o'clock, the imagery is completely different or 'young' compared to 6 pages ahead where the time is also at 1 o'clock. I want to incorporate many different styles of creating art like line work, collages, overlays, etc., and either of these ideas can be a fun and challenging way to do this. Because my idea is similar to a storybook, I want to make the size of my zine to be 8.5' x 5'5. I think this allows for enough room to capture the complexities within my art but isn't too small to undermine the meaning and depth.
