CREATIVE PIXELS | DEIDRA HEIL
When this project was first introduced, it felt overwhelming and daunting. Although the labs were meant to help, they only increased my anxiety about tackling it. After experimenting with different tools, I found After Effects to be the easiest route for creating my animations, so I used it throughout the project.
For my video, I wanted to explore the concept of escaping reality through virtual reality, only to become trapped inside it. With VR technology evolving so quickly today, I thought it would be interesting to play with the idea of being stuck in the digital world with no escape. I’m pleased with most of the project, though I wish I’d had more time to perfect my animations, especially the walk cycles. In one scene, my arms awkwardly swing behind my body, which bothered me, but I didn’t fix it in time.
Despite these flaws, I think the animations are engaging, with different perspectives and scenes that keep the viewer interested, even though the theme revolves around running away from a monster. The ending, where I put the VR headset back on, leaves the viewer wondering if I’m stuck in VR forever.
Although shot on an iPhone, I think the final video looks professional, with well-edited clips and smooth animation. I know there’s room for improvement, and next time I work on an animation, I’ll take the necessary steps to ensure cleaner, more polished work.
