(P1): Artist Statement

My final artworks serves as a collection of pieces displaying the effects that time has on the world around us. I explored many different topics from hairstyles to evolution and I learned a lot during the process. I realized that my original ideas for a certain page changed throughout the process as new concepts popped into my mind. For many of my pages I started it with a plan and then as I began working it snowballed into something completely different, but ultimately I think it turned out nicely. It is important to let the creativity flow while executing each page rather than focus on it being structured and according to plan. This allows for more enjoyment while creating as your aren't worried about the end product being perfect. In my brainstorm I had mentioned telling a story about an individual, and while that isn't the case for the final product, I still feel like there is still an underlying story when flipping through the pages. My goal was to portray the concept of time in our world and how it develops emotions, connection, decay, stylistic choices, etc. Because time is a central aspect in everyone's lives, I thought it would be challenging and interesting to attempt to visualize that through images and drawings. Although this is a complex theme, I feel like my execution was rather successful in grasping such a large idea. I included hidden clocks throughout the pages to serve as a main reminder of the theme and to transform the pieces from normal works of art to conceptual suggestions towards my objective. In the future, I want to allow myself to take the time on each page rather than focusing on completing the art according to the deadline. I feel like some pages could've been more thought out and organized, but I was worried about having the time to finish it, thus leaving some sloppy lines and shallow meaning.
